Gators and Cotton

We travelled to FL for Michael's birthday (documented on their blog), and while we were there we all went to Wakulla Springs cause Dad hadn't been there - and it is awesome!!!
The springs come out of a huge aquafer.
Here is the boat - that close to an alligator! We had a daring pilot.
Dad took this picture of the river - a world of it's own.

We saw a lot of amazing bird fishing. They have long legs and necks so that they can walk on the bottom of the river with their beaks out of the water to breathe. Then they dive, spear a fish, hold it in their beak, throw it up, and swallow it whole. You can see the fish as a bulge in their neck. The bird in this picture is drying it's feathers.

We really were this close to the alligator. They have lots of little triangle teeth.

A row of turtles sunning. Reptiles need sun to maintain their body temperature.

On the way home, the cotton fields were in full bloom. I tried to get a good shot of them. The sides of the road look trashed, but it's just cotton.

This is a cotton field at 75 MPH.
