Duality

Rene Descartes said: I think, therefore I am.
I've been reading 2 Nephi 2 today and conclude:
I choose, therefore I am.
Agree?

I think that's right, inasmuch as we are things to act and not to be acted upon. We are capable of abdicating this divine power, and to the extent we do, we stop being what God made us to be - beings capable of real choices. Other things exist too, like the things to be acted upon, and Descartes main worry - does the external world exist at all? - has never been a serious concern ancient or modern prophets.

I very much agree. Additionally, however, I think it's also: "Things matter to me, therefore I am." Our loves are very nearly as foundational as our choices, and in most cases, our values precede & predict our choices. Agency without Testimony is dead?
